As briefly mentioned near the bottom of last week’s newsletter, the Meadowlakes City Coun – cil approved a lease of the city’s tennis/pickleball courts to L&A Cowart Enterprises, LLC, which is operated by Meadow – lakes’ own Lance Cowart. Lance also serves as the Visit official website current Director of Field Operations for USA Pickleball and a former professional on the world tennis circuit. The effec – tive date will be January 1, 2023.

While the lease will result in a small amount of revenue for the city, it also places the burden of upkeep and electricity on the lessee. Residents will continue to use the courts free of charge. Non-resi – dents will also be able to play without charge but will be lower than Mead – owlakes residents in pri – ority of reserving courts. If you are a Meadow – lakes resident, indicate on the form that you are, and you will get priority if the reservation is made a week or more before.

For reservations made within seven days of the request – ed date, all players have the same priority. Also, if you reserve a court, but do not have an opponent (or opponents if you play doubles), you can announce your inten – tion to play by using the Playtime Scheduler app that can be downloaded to your mobile phone.

Note that Playtime Scheduler does not re – serve a court, it is simply a way of showing the world that you have reserved a court-that is done by us – ing the above link-and are looking for players to join you. (The app will ask for region and court. Use “Hill Country” as the region and “Hidden Falls” as the court.) Very soon, the city website will contain a direct link to the court reservation function.

Pickleball Lessons

Pickleball lessons are also available from one of four instructors, all of whom are Internation al Pickleball Teaching Professional Association (IPTPA) Level 2 certified instructors. The city also receives a small portion of the proceeds from each pickleball lesson. So, you help the city when you take a lesson. (Contact Meadowlakes City Hall at 830-693-6840 for details and numbers).

Tennis Lessons

If you are into tennis and not pickleball, tennis lessons will still be avail – able from Ricardo Guil – len. You can reach him at (830) 613-0324 if you or your aspiring tennis play – er are looking to improve. Ricardo does have a day job, so it is important talk to him to arrange a mutually agreeable time.

Looking Back

The end of the year reminds us to look back and see the changes that have taken place. It is also a time to look back to re – member those of our fam – ily, friends, and neighbors who-since the first of the year-have now moved on to their final resting place. The national media will mention the famous celebrities like Queen Elizabeth, Jerry Lee Lew – is, and others. But the people around us, who were once our friends or close compan – ions, deserve every bit as much remembrance and celebration. They were a much greater part of our lives. As we say good-bye to 2022, I wish all of you a Happy New Year.
